The integration of Edge Computing and 5G technology holds transformative potential for bridging the digital divide in rural and village areas, yet its deployment in these regions remains underexplored. This paper investigates the feasibility and challenges of implementing Edge Computing systems in resource-constrained village environments, leveraging 5G networks to enable low-latency, high-bandwidth applications such as smart agriculture, telemedicine, and real-time disaster monitoring. Traditional cloud-centric architectures often fail in rural settings due to inadequate internet infrastructure, high latency, and energy inefficiencies. To address this, we propose a novel hierarchical Edge Computing framework optimized for 5G-enabled rural networks, emphasizing cost-effective deployment, energy efficiency, and localized data processing. Our methodology includes a comparative analysis of existing Edge-5G architectures, simulations of latency and bandwidth performance in rural scenarios, and case studies of pilot deployments in villages with limited connectivity. Results demonstrate that coupling Edge Computing with 5G can reduce latency by up to 40% compared to traditional cloud models while minimizing data transmission costs by 30%, making services like precision farming and remote healthcare viable in underserved regions. However, challenges such as 5G infrastructure costs, energy sustainability, and digital literacy gaps require targeted policy interventions. This work contributes a roadmap for policymakers and telecom providers to prioritize rural Edge-5G integration, ultimately fostering equitable access to emerging technologies. Future research directions include hybrid renewable energy solutions for Edge nodes and AI-driven resource allocation in dynamic rural networks.
